People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
Albany Police
Early morning assault - Police are investigating a 3 a.m. attempted robbery where two men allegedly hit two other men with a shotgun and a golf club. By the time police arrived, the suspects had left the scene, a home in the 2000 block of Ferry Street S.W. Those involved were known to police. Detectives are following up. A woman in the home was arrested on an unrelated warrant, cited and released.
Boat stolen - The owner of a silver 16-foot Almar boat on a trailer noticed it missing from the side of his Liberty Street S.W. home Monday night. He said it was there when he left for work that morning. A neighbor saw someone come to the home, hook up the boat, and leave. The neighbor described the vehicle to police as a black or gray Toyota 4-Runner. The boat has black vinyl seat covers the owner's mom made for him. The trailer is single axle with white fenders. There are no suspects.
Linn County Sheriff
Mill City burglary - A City Hall employee arrived at work in the 200 block of Cedar Street in Mill City Tuesday morning and found a binder in the parking lot. She then noticed the door to the storage building was open. Several folders and binders had been pulled from their boxes and a can of paint had been opened and dumped on some of them. It is possible the door had been left unlocked. There are no suspects, and the investigation continues.
Mower, TV stolen - A landlord in the 34000 block of Santiam Highway near Lebanon is alleging a renter took a $600 Murray riding lawn mower and an $800 projection TV while moving out. The call came in at 11:49 a.m. Tuesday.
Newspaper box theft - A coin-operated Democrat-Herald newspaper box was taken sometime between 1 p.m. Monday and 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from 306 West Second St. in Halsey. The value of the box is about $3,000.
Trailer stolen - A trailer was reported stolen Tuesday night from the 40000 block of Stayton-Scio Loop. The owner last remembers seeing the 2005 Bri-Mar 12-foot-long black dump trailer about a week ago. It is valued at $8,000.
Sweet Home Police
Motorcycle collision - Someone called police to report two men on a motorcycle cutting in between vehicles on Poplar Street near the Foster Post Office at about 8:30 Monday night. Officers responded and located a vehicle matching the description traveling on Foster Dam Road. The motorcycle crashed.
Passenger Gerald Lee Stroud, 47, was transported to Good Samaritan hospital in Corvallis. Motorcycle operator Richard Dean Leland Jr., 42, was arrested for second-degree assault, DUII, reckless driving, reckless endangering and possessing less than an ounce of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school. He was also cited for refusing a breath test, failure to obey a traffic control device and failure to drive within the lane. He was lodged at the Linn County Jail.
Lebanon Police
Egging, bikes stolen - Two vehicles and a home in the 500 block of East Elmore Street were egged sometime before Monday morning. In addition, two freestyle BMX bikes were stolen. It is unclear if the events are related. A report was taken for first-degree burglary and vandalism.
Marion County Sheriff
ATV crash update - On Monday at 8:25 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of an ATV crash in the 17000 block of Wall Lane in Jefferson. According to witnesses, John Pollard, 36, of Jefferson was riding an ATV on Jefferson-Scio Drive. He had a 23-month-old child in his lap and when they got to Wall Lane he crashed, throwing both of them from the vehicle. The child was flown by REACH helicopter to Legacy Emanual Hospital with serious injuries. Pollard was transported to the Salem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Crisis Chaplaincy Services was on scene and assisted deputies with the family members of the victim. The cause of the crash is still under investigation and it appears alcohol may have been a factor.
