Gun under the hood - Police stopped a vehicle Wednesday afternoon on Spicer Road S.E., after getting information that the driver might have a stolen firearm.

Police said they found the gun, a Ruger P89 stolen from Corvallis, under the hood of the vehicle.

Brian Bruce Rogers, 30, of Albany was arrested on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and first-degree theft. He was taken to the Linn County Jail and released to appear Feb. 7 in Linn County Circuit Court.

Burglary - Jewelry worth more than $5,000 was reported stolen Wednesday from a garage in the 500 block of 22nd Avenue S.E. The jewelry included diamond and garnet rings, diamond earrings and gold rings.

Vehicle found - Officers recovered a stolen 1993 Mercury Topaz Wednesday evening in the area of Second Avenue and Main Street S.E. The car had been reported stolen Tuesday in Albany.

Bryan Lee Hemkin, 32, of Albany was lodged in the Linn County Jail on charges of unauthorized use of a vehicle, possession of meth, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana within 1,000 feet of a school and possession of a stolen vehicle. He was also cited for driving while suspended and no insurance.

MARION COUNTY SHERIFF

Inmate search - Abraham Ramirez-Curiel, 23, walked away from a Marion County Sheriff's Office inmate work crew that was working this morning at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem. Ramirez-Curiel, who may be headed south to California, was serving a sentence on a drug-related charge, according to the sheriff's office.

Ramirez-Curiel is believed to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, green work pants with the word "INMATE" down the leg, white long johns and possibly an orange stocking cap.

He is described as a Hispanic male, 5-foot-6, 150 pounds with very short black hair and brown eyes. He has a small scar on his upper lip left side and he is missing his right index finger.
