Central Point bat tests positive for rabies

CENTRAL POINT (AP) - Health officials say a bat found in Central Point last week has tested positive for rabies.

It's the second case of rabies confirmed in Oregon this year. The first was in Linn County.

The Jackson County Department of Health and Human Services says a dog brought the dead bat to its owner Thursday. The owner took it to the health department, who sent it for testing at Oregon State University.

A department spokesman says the dog that found the bat had been vaccinated. Under state law, dogs and cats that don't have up-to-date vaccinations face either a six-month quarantine at the owner's expense or euthanasia.
