The father of a 2-year-old girl ejected during a rollover crash last week was lodged Tuesday in the Linn County Jail.

Jorge Villa-Rubio, 23, of Salem, who was driving the car at the time of the crash, has been charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants, second-degree assault and reckless driving.

Immigration authorities have placed a hold on Villa-Rubio. He is from Mexico, according to jail officials.

Early on Feb. 26, Villa-Rubio was driving a 1996 Ford Contour south on Interstate 5 when he tried to take the Highway 20 exit, went off the road and rolled the car. A passerby spotted the vehicle hours later and called for help.

Villa-Rubio's daughter, Esmaralda Villa-Ulloa, was taken by helicopter to the Corvallis hospital and later released to other family members.

Villa-Rubio was being treated at Samaritan Albany General Hospital until Tuesday. He was scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Linn Circuit Court.
