People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

ALBANY POLICE

Unprovoked assault - A woman was struck in the face by a man she didn't know while in the Fred Meyer parking lot Saturday.

According to police, here's what happened:

The woman was walking across the parking lot when a 31-year-old man, who was talking to himself, began talking to her and calling her a slut. The man then punched her in the face and ran off. Police found the man in a back yard in the 1700 block of 12th Avenue S.E., and arrested him for fourth-degree assault.

Stolen bank card - A woman called police Sunday and said her purse and backpack had been stolen from her car while it was parked in the 600 block of Airport Road S.E., and that her debit card had been used at an ATM at an Albany bar. Officers went to the bar twice and on the second time, they found the suspect at the ATM. Another person at the bar handed police a bag of methamphetamine and said the man at the ATM had just dropped it.

Jason Lee Caudill, 29, of Albany was arrested on charges of possession of meth, theft, computer crime and other related offenses. He was lodged in the Linn County Jail.

Burglary - An apartment in the 1900 block of Del Rio Avenue S.E. was broken into and ransacked Sunday. More than $3,000 worth of jewelry, computers and Wii games were stolen. The computers were a Compaq Presario laptop and Samsonite laptop.

LINN COUNTY SHERIFF

Gas theft - A security guard working at a business on Old Salem Road spotted a man stealing gasoline from an SUV in a nearby parking lot Saturday. Deputies caught up with the suspected thief on Kathryn Street and found that he had siphoned about 1½ gallons of gas. The 54-year-old man was arrested on charges of theft and unlawful entry to a motor vehicle. The man's car was towed and his dog was taken to Linn County Dog Control.

Crash - Deputies responded at 10:28 a.m. Sunday to a single-vehicle crash on Jefferson-Scio Road west of Robinson Drive. According to the sheriff's office, driver Colleen Corrine Keever, 61, went off the road and through a field and several fences before hitting a tree. She was taken to the Corvallis hospital in serious condition.
