This weekend Brownsville is welcoming visitors to take a horse-drawn journey back to 1859 for its annual "Carriage Me Back" fundraising event to benefit the Linn County Museum and the historic Moyer House.
Event volunteer Nan Van Sandt said this years' historical celebration, which ties into Oregon's sesquicentennial, promises to be better than ever.
"We have borrowed some wonderful costumes from the Very Little Theatre in Eugene, and many businesses and restaurants in our town will be getting into the act by decorating their storefronts with bunting and wearing period costumes," she said.
The volunteer reenactors even received some special acting training from city administrator and acting coach Scott McDowell.
"In the past we've kind of winged it," said volunteer Joni Nelson. "He's really improved people's skills and has wonderful suggestions."
Visitors will begin their journey in 1859, watching Brownsville citizens celebrate Oregon statehood.
Once at the Moyer House, built in 1881, visitors will disembark and travel forward to 1909 for a guided tour of the home, complete with antics of the residents who are commemorating Oregon's birthday.
"We like to say it's largely historical, partly hysterical," Nelson said.
New this year, Clancy Sutton will play a tin horn gambler, teaching tourgoers how to cheat at cards at the museum.
Carriages leave every 30 minutes from the Linn County Historical Museum at 101 Park Ave.
The museum will be open and feature musical entertainment.
The event is supported by a grant from the Linn County Cultural Coalition.
