The public is invited to check out seven homes and two gardens during the annual interior tour
A 1930s art deco Tudor in North Albany is one of seven historic homes and two gardens on the 30th annual Interior Tour of Historic Homes on Saturday.
Tour hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for seniors and groups of 10 or more; and children 12 and under are free with a paid adult.
Ticket sales start at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Albany Visitors Association in Two Rivers Market, 250 Broadalbin St. S.W., Room 110.
Tourgoers can get to the homes on foot, in their own vehicles or in a horse-drawn wagon or vintage trolley.
Commercial buildings on the tour are the Carousel Studio and Dentzel American Carousel Museum, Whitespires Church, the Albany Regional Museum and the Monteith House Museum. Light refreshments will be served at the studio. Musician Bill Lanham will stroll around with his banjo.
Besides the art deco Tudor, homes on the self-guided tour include an 1890 Italianate Cottage, 1895 Queen Anne, 1894 Queen Anne Cottage, 1892 Italianate and a 1951 mid-century modern, which is a work in progress.
Mary Crocker Fisher and her husband, Harold, own the art deco Tudor. They bought it three years ago, but it took eight months of remodeling before they could move into the 1,800-square-foot, two-bedroom home. The outside was as much a jumble as the interior. Other than blackberries, there were only two living plants on the property.
Mary Fisher, a former antiques dealer and interior decorator, used furniture pieces she acquired while doing her job to furnish the two-story home that boasts a roof-top terrace over the garage.
The furnishings are true to the 1930s period.
The couple installed oak floors, crown molding in the living room and, in the kitchen, vintage-looking black and white tile countertops. The cabinets are a soft-yellow bead board, and the entire room is bathed with light from all the windows.
A guest room at the top of the stairs has French toile wallpaper, and the room accents are white, gold and burgundy. A former closet with windows is now a sitting area.
Across the hall is the master bedroom, decorated in a French and English motif. A huge French armoire dominates the room.
Outside, the Fishers ripped out a large swimming pool in the backyard and built a pergola with a rectangular dining table inside for entertaining.
The perimeter of the backyard is filled with plantings, and there is a fountain at the west end surrounded by rose bushes.
The Fishers say they still have some work to do, but they're happy that the most difficult remodeling projects are behind them.
