Elementary principals slate meetings
New principals at five Albany elementary schools have organized an opportunity to informally meet students and their families.
The event is called "Popsicles with the New Principals!" and will be Thursday, Aug. 28, for families at Fir Grove, Lafayette, Liberty, Periwinkle and Sunrise elementaries.
The schedule:
* 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Periwinkle, 2196 21st Ave., with Principal Elisa Stephens.
* 4 to 5 p.m. at Fir Grove, 5355 Scenic Drive N.W., with Principal Roberta Barnes.
* 4 to 5 p.m. at Lafayette, 3122 Madison St. S.E., with Principal Heather Huzefka.
* 4 to 5 p.m. at Liberty, 2345 Liberty St. S.W., with Principal Janell Ediger.
* 4 to 5 p.m. at Sunrise, 730 19th Ave. S.E., with Principal Lori Greenfield.
Fundraiser set for Washington, D.C., trip
Xpress Lube, 527 North Albany Road, will host a fundraiser for the Calapooia Middle School Washington D.C. trip.
All proceeds between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, will be donated to the trip.

Silversmith to teach soldering class
Don Norris, a professional silversmith, will be at Spearit Beads & Co. from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, to teach a class on silversmithing.
It will be a one-day basic soldering class in which students will design their own pendants by picking out a stone, making a bezel to hold it, soldering on "doo-dads" around the stone for soldering experience, filing it, setting the stone and polishing it.
The cost of the class will be $200, which will include all supplies.

Free coronary health classes scheduled
The Coronary Health Improvement Project will provide free information sessions on disease prevention and lifestyle.
The four sessions are:
* 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Linn-Benton Community College, Lebanon Center, 44 Industrial Way, Room 218.
* 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 N. Santiam Highway, Room A.
* 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 N. Santiam Highway, Room B.
* 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, Seventh-day Adventist Church gym, 690 S. 10th St., Lebanon.
Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital and the Seventh-day Adventist Church are sponsoring the events.

Driving refresher course set at hospital
An eight-hour classroom refresher course for older drivers is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Sept. 12 and 13, at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 N. Santiam Way.
There are no tests and all materials will be furnished. The cost is $10, which is to be paid the day of the first class.
Drivers are encouraged to sign up in advance due to limited space.

Optimist club to hold informational meeting
The Lebanon Optimist Club will hold a two-hour meeting to share what they do for the community. Those interested in being members should attend.
The group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Boys & Girls Club of Lebanon, 305 S. Fifth St.
