HALSEY - The Federal Emergency Management Agency today awarded $275,118 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program to help local fire departments and organizations in Oregon enhance operations and safety, including $42,465 to the Halsey-Shedd Rural Fire Protection District.
Other agencies and their awards are: Astoria Fire Department, $99,275; Dayton Fire District, $38,000; Gresham Fire and Emergency Services, $31,686; Santa Clara Rural Fire Protection District, $63,692.
The Department of Homeland Security's AFG program is a component of the administration's effort to strengthen the nation's overall level of preparedness. The AFG is designed to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public with respect to fire and other hazards. The grants enable local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations to purchase or receive training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response vehicles.
