ALBANY

Several events today at library

Several youth activities are set for today at the Albnay Public Library, 1390 Waverly Drive S.E.

• Fans of Japanese animation and readers of the popular Japanese Manga books, age 11 to adult, are invited to attend the Anime Club meeting from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday. This will be the final Anime Club meeting at this building before the move to the new library building in January.

• Students in third through 12th grades interested in dramatic storytelling are invited to join the Wonderkeepers Next Generation from 1:15 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. After a pizza lunch, the group will learn stories as they practice using voice, movement, costume, and actions to communicate with the audience.

• Incredible Years School Readiness classes continue at 11:15 a.m. this Saturday and Nov. 22. Parents of children aged 2 to 7 may come and bring a sack lunch. Juice will be provided.

Talk will explore needs of returning veterans

The presentation "The Invisible Wounds of War: When our Veterans Come Home" will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Linn County Extension Building, Miller Room B, 104 Fourth St. S.W., Albany.

Dr. Carolyn Heggen, a nationally known expert on the traumas of war, will talk about the needs of returning veterans and how communities can best support them as they make the transition from battle zone to home zone.

JEFFERSON

Fire district to host AARP driving class

An eight-hour classroom refresher course for drivers ages 16 and older is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.

The times are from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Jefferson Fire Department Administrative Office Building, 189 N. Main St.

The AARP Safe Driving Class, which is hosted by the Jefferson Fire District and taught by an AARP volunteer, helps refine existing skills and encourages safe, defensive driving techniques and points out age-related changes that may affect driving.

Participants also receive updated information on changes in the driving laws.

Drivers who attend may qualify for an auto insurance premium reduction. There are no tests. The cost is $10, which must be paid the day of the class.

Drivers are encouraged to sign up in advance as the class size is limited. For more information or to register, call (541) 327-2822, or stop by the station.

LEBANON

Soup kitchen seeks support with holiday dinners

The Lebanon Soup Kitchen will serve dinner to approximately 200 hungry people on Thanksgiving and Christmas. It costs $1.25 to serve one person, and the soup kitchen wants to remind the public that it needs support this holiday season.
