Albany Police

Stolen radar detector - A loss prevention specialist at Sears noted a man leaving the store without paying for a Cobra brand radar detector Friday morning. A chase ensued and the employee was able to handcuff the man after he tripped in the parking lot. Police were called and the suspect was cooperative.

Kipp Johnathan Reynolds, 31, of Lebanon was arrested and charged with third-degree robbery. The shoplifting incident heightened to felony robbery because Reynolds used force against the loss prevention specialist. Reynolds was lodged in Linn County Jail, processed and released.

Domestic assault - Joshua Lee Mentzer, 26, of Albany was arrested and charged with fourth-degree domestic assault late Friday night after he allegedly punching his girlfriend twice while their child was present. He was lodged in Linn County Jail with bail set at $6,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Masked men - A concerned caller advised police of a group of suspicious men putting on ski masks and gloves near the AAA Ace Buyers store on Santiam Highway S.E. at about 4 p.m. Saturday. Police investigated and found the men were bicyclists just trying to stay warm. Police said the caller did the right thing by calling.

Linn County Sheriff

Motor vehicle crash - A white Ford Explorer was headed westbound on Shelburn at about 4 p.m. Friday near the 38400 block of Schilling Drive northwest of Scio when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a curve in the road. The car travelled across a driveway and hit a utility pole head-on. The pole broke in half over the vehicle. The driver, Gary Swain of Stayton, 47, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Santiam Memorial Hospital in Stayton.
