Linn-Benton Community College is offering many community education classes this summer. Among the options:

• Blues Harmonica (CRN 13401): Learn harmonica techniques used to play blues, R&B, country and rock, with an emphasis on blues. No prior musical training is needed. Class meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays in North Santiam Hall, Albany Campus. Cost is $63.

• Spanish: Practical Conversation (CRN 13369): Learn casual and practical skills to hear, understand and speak Spanish with confidence in settings such as neighborhoods, schools, churches, the workplace and volunteering. This course is geared for those who have had Spanish before but would like to brush-up, practice and improve their skills. Class will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays for five weeks starting July 3. Cost is $63.

• Beginning Spanish (CRN 13368): Get an introduction to everyday Spanish language with lessons on present-tense verbs. Geared for students with no previous Spanish experience. Class will meet from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays for five weeks starting July 30. Cost is $33.

• The Creative Writing Workshop (CRN 13679): This class serves as a support group for your writing and offers many practical ways to stimulate writing, keep writing, and follow a project through to its completion. Avenues to publication will also be discussed. This three-week class will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays starting July 3 at the Albany Senior Center. Cost is $33.

• Grant Writing (CRN 13454): Learn the basics of grant proposal writing. Geared for those working or volunteering in community organizations. Learn organization, structure and how to identify funding sources for various projects. This two-day class will meet from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 7 and 14 in North Santiam Hall, Albany campus. Cost is $45.

• PowerPoint class (CRN 13403): Learn to create presentations for a variety of events, parties and receptions using the computer software PowerPoint. Topics include how to plan, create and edit in PowerPoint and how to insert clipart, graphics and charts and how to create slide show transitions. Geared for those who have some computer experience. Class meets from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays for four weeks starting July 24 on the Albany campus. Cost is $66. Students 62 and over receive half-price tuition.

• How to Make/Use Biodiesel: The Green Food (CRN 12750): This course will answer your questions about biodiesel, including where to find ready-made fuel processors and how to set up your own processing. Learn a step-by-step method for producing your first batch of home-brewed biodiesel. Class will meet from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 14-15 in North Santiam Hall, room 107, LBCC Albany campus. Cost for this non-credit course is $51. Preregistration is required.
