Students trying to get ‘Smart Board’

SWEET HOME - The public is invited to help students in Luke DiFalco's math classes at Sweet Home Junior High earn an electronic "Smart Board" for his classroom.

Organizer and parent Cherrie Carranza said seventh-graders are collecting General Mills box tops and grocery receipts from the Sweet Home Thriftway until their goal of $2,000 is met.

Each class also earns an ice-cream party when it reaches 1,000 box tops. Two of the five classes have met this goal so far, Carranza said.

Thriftway is donating 1 percent of receipts turned back in to the school.

Smart Boards are flat, interactive computer screens the size of a school chalkboard. They can be connected to a computer or digital projector to show an image, which can then be controlled directly from the board.

Sweet Home area residents can help DiFalco's classes reach the goal by turning in box tops and Thriftway receipts to the junior high, Carranza said, or contacting her at (541) 367-6638 for more information.
