ALBANY POLICE

Suspected car prowlers - A police sergeant spotted two men riding bicycles at the Albany train station around 1:10 a.m. today and suspected they might be car prowling. The men left the area and split up when they saw the sergeant. When police tried to talk with one of the men, he rode away near Seventh Avenue and Washington Street S.W. He eventually abandoned the bike, crossed the canal and ran. Police were unable to find him. An officer checked on vehicles at the train station and didn't find any that had been broken into.

Stolen laptop - A car in a parking lot in the 3400 block of Spicer Drive S.E. was broken into sometime before Thursday morning. A Dell laptop worth about $2,500 was among the items stolen from the vehicle.

Boat found - The owner of a 12-foot aluminum row boat that was stolen some time ago in Millersburg spotted the boat Thursday on top of a van in a store parking lot in Albany. Police responded so the boat could be returned to its owner. No one was arrested in connection with the theft.

LINN COUNTY SHERIFF

Crash - Deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash at 3:17 p.m. Thursday in the 37000 block of Robinson Drive near Scio. The steering came loose on the 1984 Ford Ranger 4x4 which caused the driver to lose control and the vehicle to crash. The driver and passenger had only minor injuries.

Stolen converter - A catalytic converter was stolen off of a vehicle parked at a business on West Scio Road earlier this week. The sheriff's office was notified about the theft on Thursday.

ATV theft - A blue and white 2001 Yamaha Banshee was reported stolen Thursday from a shop in the 32000 block of Tangent Loop.
