Your presence is requested at Central Command via GameStop Heritage Mall for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Midnight Launch Event at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9. Failure is not an option. Rewards will be great. Now gear up, soldier!
For fans of the original Call of Duty, those words are no doubt familiar. And they're back in the somewhat controversial sequel that will go on sale at midnight at GameStop.
"This is going to be the biggest game launch in history," said Kristen Maloney, assistant manager at the Albany GameStop. "Call of Duty is the best first-person shooting game on the market. It sells the highest number of games right now."
In the first scene of Call of Duty 2, Maloney said, the player's character is with a group of terrorists who are shooting innocent people in an airport. You can choose to join in with the terrorists or just keep walking through. This level is skippable, and store management plans to inform parents about it.
Maloney and store manager Serena Thompson said the event will feature a 12-by-12-foot tent with a shooting simulator from the U.S. Army, a showing of the the movie "Behind Enemy Lines" and eight stations set up for people to try the new game. Nearby Pizza Hut will offer specials during the launch.
Thompson said between 300 and 500 people are expected at Monday's event.
"Customers are welcome to dress up and be Army themed," Thompson said. "There will be prizes for the best costume."
Raymond Knuth of Albany pre-ordered copies for himself and his brother.
"I spend probably three to four hours a day on the game," he said. "Sometimes I stay up all night playing Call of Duty."
People who want to go to the launch event or purchase the game must be at least 17, or accompanied by a parent. Thompson said they will check the ID's of everyone buying the game and an older brother or sister does not count as a guardian.
