People arrested are innocent unless proved otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
ALBANY POLICE
Stolen jewelry - A gold ring with 25 diamonds and a white gold watch were reported stolen Wednesday from the 1600 block of 15th Avenue S.W. The jewelry is worth $2,300.
Car break-in - A Honda Pilot parked in the 300 block of Eighth Avenue S.W. was broken into sometime before Wednesday morning. About 100 CDs and a Garmin navigation system were stolen. Value of items: $1,100.
Bicycle stolen - A Diamondback mountain bike worth $1,500 was reported stolen Wednesday from the 1600 block of 15th Avenue S.E.
Narcotics search - A stolen TV and 12 DVDs stolen from video rental businesses turned up Wednesday during a narcotics search at a storage unit in Tangent. Police also found a small amount of meth and drug paraphernalia. The Linn County Sheriff's Office assisted.
The search was related to an earlier search warrant executed April 1 at a residence in Sweet Home. During that search, police arrested two people and found a quarter pound of meth and stolen property.
Alleged rape - Police have arrested an Albany man for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman inside his van early Wednesday morning.
According to police, the man met the woman Tuesday and they spent time together before he parked his van in the area of Seventh Avenue and Baker Street S.E., refusing to take her home. The woman didn't leave the van because she didn't know exactly where she was and it was getting dark. Early in the morning, the man allegedly raped the woman. She left the van after he drove a short distance and she recognized her surroundings.
Later in the day, police found and arrested Vincent Floyd Russo, 44, and charged him with first-degree rape. He was lodged in the Linn County Jail.
LINN COUNTY SHERIFF
Burglary - Almost $3,000 worth of items were stolen during a burglary Wednesday at a residence in the 3300 block of 54th Avenue N.E., Millersburg. Stolen items included an Xbox and games, scanner, TV, DVD player with surround sound system, cell phone charger, two digital cameras, computer and safe.
Shotgun found - Around 11 p.m. Wednesday on Lyons-Mill City Drive, a deputy stopped a pickup he had seen racing with another vehicle the night before.
The deputy saw a 20-gauge shotgun on the pickup seat and arrested the driver, Matthew William Longwood, 52, of Mill City, for felon in possession of a firearm and failure to present a driver's license. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.
