CORVALLIS - A Corvallis man was killed in a two-vehicle collision shortly after midnight Thursday on Highway 99W north of Corvallis.

According to Oregon State Police, here's what happened:

Around 12:15 a.m. today, a 2003 Chevrolet S10 pickup driven by Aaron James Veden, 21, of Corvallis was traveling south on Highway 99W near Arboretum Road when it crossed the center line.

Awad Mohamed Elgarguri, 49, was driving north in a 1990 Geo Storm and tried to avoid the oncoming pickup but was struck in the driver's side.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His son, Arubahr Elgarguri, 16, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis with minor injuries.

Veden was also taken to the Corvallis hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Fatigue is a possible contributing factor in Veden's driving, according to OSP.

Troopers from the Albany Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

The Benton County Sheriff's Office, the Corvallis Fire Department and the Oregon Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.

The northbound lane of Highway 99W was closed for about four hours. Traffic was able to get through using the southbound lane.
