Celebration to honor deceased loved ones

Posted: Monday, November 17, 2008 12:00 am

The public is invited to the 20th annual Light Up A Life celebration, held in conjunction with National Hospice Month, at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23, at the Linn County Fair & Expo Center, 3700 Knox Butte Road N.E.

Last year, more than 300 local citizens joined Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in paying tribute to loved ones - living and deceased - during the hour-long "Reading of the Names" ceremony, where hospice staff and volunteers read the names aloud.

The event will feature Barb Hansen, RN, administrator of Samaritan Evergreen Hospice; Samaritan Health Services chaplains Debra Vanover, Capi Alexander and Virginia Brown; and Cathye McCracken, a medical social worker. There will be live music and a slide show containing photos of those being remembered.

The occasion is in conjunction with a month-long campaign to raise funds for the care and treatment of Samaritan Evergreen Hospice patients. A donation of $25 is suggested to read a name, and the donor will receive a tree ornament to remember the occasion.
