MILLERSBURG - Millersburg City Hall is expanding.
The 24-year-old building at 4222 N.E. Old Salem Road is getting 2,500 square feet added onto its original 5,000. The extra space will include room for offices, a conference room, an archive room, break room and additional storage, according to city manager Barbara Castillo.
"We've grown quite a bit," she said.
Nomark Construction of Woodburn is the contractor for the expansion. Construction began this summer and is expected to be completed in January of 2009. Cost is estimated at $1.2 million and was funded through the city's general fund.
City Hall was built in 1984. It currently houses city government, including the mayor, city manager, six full-time employees and one part-time office assistant.
The expanded facility is a good example of the growth of Millersburg, Castillo said.
"There are a lot of new streets and we've issued a couple of housing permits just this week," she said. "It's not as active as it was but it certainly hasn't slowed to a stop."
She also mentioned the Peak Sun project that is progressing according to schedule. The polysilicon production plant, also on Old Salem Road, has two buildings already up and construction on the third is expected to start soon. The $29 million project that broke ground in March is expected to create 50 jobs and is scheduled to open this fall.
"There is still a lot going on here," Castillo said.
