People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

Albany Police

Passed out, with Kisses - The Budget Inn called police Monday afternoon when the manager could not wake a patron. The man was on the floor of a room, sleeping or unconscious, with the door to the room open. When police arrived, they found the patron passed out on the floor surrounded by Hershey's Kisses and cereal. They were able to wake him and he said he was up late the night before and fell asleep on the floor watching TV. The manager asked that the man be trespassed. He gave him a partial refund on the room, but did charge him for breaking the toilet seat.

Ring theft - A woman called police from Wynwood of Albany saying someone came into her room and stole her deceased husband's wedding ring from her jewelry box. She noticed it was missing when she went to take it to a jeweler to fuse it with hers and make a necklace. She said the ring is gold with five small diamonds, is size 6/7, and was purchased for $125 nearly 40 years ago.

Check label, then call - Someone was cleaning up trash near a bus stop at 1350 Pacific Blvd. S.E. at 11:35 p.m. Monday and came upon a baggie with a brown substance in it. The person called police to see if it was drugs. An officer looked at it and determined the contents were grains, a fitting use as the bag was labeled as bulk food from a local store. The person reporting did not have a flashlight and could not see the label.

Linn County Sheriff

Girl punches grandpa - A 14-year-old girl was taken to the county juvenile detention center after allegedly attacking her 77-year-old grandfather, with whom she lives. The man called deputies at 11:25 a.m. Monday and said the girl had punched him in the face and arm. Evidently, the fight started over whether or not the girl was well enough to go to school. She had symptoms of swine flu a couple of weeks ago, but the grandfather, her primary caretaker, said she was over it and needed to go back to school. The girl disagreed, taking her food into her bedroom. The grandfather told her she couldn't eat in her room and she punched him.

Jefferson Fire

Trailer fire - Jefferson firefighters responded to an enclosed trailer fire at 10:46 a.m. Monday at 13334 Marlatt Road S., to find heavy smoke coming from a wood-drying kiln. The owner had been drying large slabs of wood he uses for his business. He suspected that electrical wiring was the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported and damage was limited to wood and some electrical equipment.
