People arrested are innocent unless proved otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
Albany police
Speeder spotted - An officer tried to catch up with and stop a car that was speeding at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of 24th Avenue and Jackson Street S.E. The officer estimated the car was traveling 70 to 90 mph and the driver went through at least three stop signs without stopping.
Stolen car found - A 1995 Nissan Saturn that had been stolen from Corvallis was found unoccupied Thursday in the 1300 block of Pine Meadow Drive.
No burglary - Police responded to a call Thursday afternoon about a burglary in the 800 block of Bradley Street S.E., but found that people were moving into the residence and had locked their friends out while they went to get more of their belongings. Police contacted several people at the residence and one was arrested for a parole violation.
Theft - More than $2,000 worth of jewelry was reported stolen Thursday from the 300 block of Pine Street S.E. Police are following up on the report.
Boy found - A 9-year-old boy was found safe after he went missing Tuesday evening from Calapooia Middle School, where he had been watching a basketball game with his family. Police were notified at 8:36 p.m. and began searching for the boy in the surrounding area. Members of the Albany Fire Department also helped. A transient pointed searchers in the direction of the boy, who was found near Queen Avenue and Hill Street S.E., police said.
Linn County sheriff
Traffic arrest - A 28-year-old Lebanon man was arrested Thursday after he was caught traveling at a high rate of speed in a school zone on Goltra Road near Albany, according to the sheriff's office. The man was arrested for driving while suspended and also cited for speeding and driving uninsured. The man was booked at the Linn County Jail and then released.
Gauges stolen - Water gauges have been stripped from a Corps of Engineers' station on Quartzville Road. The sheriff's office took a report on Thursday.
Copper wire stolen - Copper wire and other items were reported stolen Thursday from property on Oakville Road. The value of the damage caused by the theft was estimated at several thousand dollars.
Vehicle break-in - A vehicle in the 3700 block of Palm Harbor Drive in Millersburg was broken into sometime before 1 p.m. Thursday. Items stolen included a Gateway laptop computer, school books, knife, flashlights, satellite radio, military pack and the front license plate. The value of the of the items is more than $1,000.
Storage theft - Camping gear worth more than $2,000 was reported stolen Thursday from a storage shed on Sixth Street S. in Harrisburg.
Arrest - Benjamin Lewis Hogan, 22, of Tangent was arrested Thursday on two counts of first-degree sodomy. He was lodged in the Linn County Jail. The charges stem from alleged abuse that occurred several years ago.
Lebanon police
Fraud investigation - Police responded to a call from a bank on S. Main Street Thursday reporting that a woman was trying to open an account with a stolen check. The woman took off running and officers caught up with her in an alley behind the bank. She was cited on outstanding failure to comply warrants from Albany Municipal Court and was released from custody. The alleged fraud is under investigation.
