Hearing set on Linn County budget

A public hearing for the Linn County supplemental budget is scheduled for 9:55 a.m. Wednesday in room 200 at the Linn County Courthouse, Fourth and Broadalbin, Albany.

Funding shortages resulting from the loss of $3.3 million in federal timber payments required county officials to make adjustments and rebalance the proposed budget in July and August.

The board will vote whether to approve the supplemental budget after the hearing.

Parks & Rec to offer hula hoop-making class

Albany Parks & Recreation is offering a hula hoop-making workshop and demonstration.

It's for ages 5 to adult and will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Mall.

The workshop will start with a demonstration of use of the hula hoop, and then participants will decorate their own hoops to use at home or in hooping classes.

The hula hoops are constructed of PVC pipe and are made larger and somewhat heavier than store-bought hoops. Their size and weight make them easier to use.

For more information or to register for the workshop, contact Albany Parks & Recreation at 917-7777.
