LEBANON: Input wanted on wastewater facility
Lebanon has filed for a conditional use permit with Linn County to establish its state-of-the-art wastewater discharge facility northeast of the city.
The county will accept comments on the application until 5 p.m. Feb. 21. Following that, County Planning Director Steve Michaels will decide whether to approve or deny the permit.
The city's plan is to pump its effluent from the wastewater treatment plant on Tennessee Road over to the South Santiam River, where it would pass under the river in a gravity flow pipe and empty up to 12 million gallons per day at four different points into existing flood channels.
By filtering the effluent through the ground before entering the river, the city would not have to pay for dechlorination or cooling the water to river temperatures, thereby cutting costs of the operation.
Comments can be sent to the Linn County Planning and Building Department, PO Box 100, Albany, OR 97321.
