People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

ALBANY POLICE

Deer in town - Police received multiple calls from people who spotted a deer Tuesday morning in downtown Albany. The animal was last seen near the Pacific Boulevard overpass.

Transient arrest - On Tuesday afternoon, an officer patrolling on bicycle found a man eating cereal with a comb near the entrance to Bryant Park, which is a known site for transient camps.

After finishing his cereal, the man was arrested on an outstanding Marion County warrant for theft. He was taken to the Linn County Jail.

Camera theft - A Q-See surveillance camera was reported stolen Monday from outside a building in the 300 block of 29th Avenue S.W. The thieves got away without being captured on video, but left behind a pry bar.

Attempted driver switch - An officer stopped a car twice Monday afternoon because the driver - the same woman both times - had a suspended license.

After giving the woman a ticket the first time, the officer let her go with the condition that the passenger drive the car. Within a half hour, the officer saw the woman driving again and stopped her.

This time, she tried to switch seats with her passenger. The officer, according to his report, told the pair that would not work and the car was towed. The woman was cited again for driving while suspended.

Gas theft - A thief cut a garden hose in the 2800 block of Squire Street N.W. sometime Saturday and siphoned about 10 gallons of gasoline from a pickup.

Window damage - Police got a call around 9:44 p.m. Monday from a person who saw boys break a window at a vacant gas station in the 500 block of Pacific Boulevard S.W. Police were unable to find the boys and planned to drive by the area during the night to make sure there were no more problems.

LEBANON POLICE

Copper theft - Two men were arrested Tuesday morning for stealing fuel from a dump truck in Scio. The men were in a Dodge pickup when deputies stopped them and there was about 1,000 pounds of copper wire in the back of the vehicle.

This morning, investigators said they had learned the wire had been stolen from the Consumers Power, Inc., power station in Philomath.

Also in the back of the pickup was a cordless drill that had been stolen in December in Kelso, Wash. It was identified by the serial number and will be returned to the owner.

A blue recycle container that had copper wire in it was also in the pickup. It was still unknown this morning where that metal came from.

No one has been arrested in connection with the metal theft, and it remains under investigation.

Too much marijuana - A Harrisburg man with a medical marijuana card was found to have too many plants Monday, according to the sheriff's office. The man had 13 plants but was only suppose to have six. The case was referred to the Linn County District Attorney's Office.

Motorcycle crash - Deputies responded at 5:13 p.m. Monday to a motorcycle crash on Ridge Drive near Scio.

According to the sheriff's office, Charles W. Elrod, 68, of Scio was riding a 1979 Yamaha Trail motorcycle on Ridge Drive en route to a store when he crashed. He was taken to Santiam Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Elrod was cited for driving while suspended and not wearing a helmet.

Burglary - A home on Marks Ridge Road near Sweet Home was broken into sometime before Monday evening. About 10 firearms and other items were stolen.

Car crash - Deputies responded at 7:15 p.m. Monday to a single-vehicle crash on Spicer School Road. The driver of a 1990 Mazda MX-6, Mary McGehee, 43, of Lebanon was taken to the Lebanon hospital. She was cited for driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Tire damage - Someone stuck a screwdriver into the tire of a truck that had taken up two parking spaces at the Safeway store Monday afternoon. An angry note accompanied the tire puncture.

Gas can - A woman called the police department Monday morning, saying her husband had seen two men with a gas can outside their home in the 400 block of E. Vine Street earlier that day. When confronted, the men said something about getting gas and then took off without the gas can.

SWEET HOME POLICE

Road sign damage - Police responded just before 9 p.m. Monday to a report of an intoxicated man taking down road signs and bending them near Elm and 12th streets. The 35-year-old man was charged with criminal mischief and held for detox. He was later released.

Money box - A man called police Monday morning after finding a money box from a McDonald's restaurant on a trail near 12th and Nandina streets. The money box, police learned, had been stolen sometime Saturday night or Sunday morning.
