A California transplant may be wishing he had slowed down to admire the Oregon scenery after being arrested for driving his 2006 Mazda MZ6 at over 150 mph Saturday.

Christopher Vaughn Gordy, 25, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., was motoring east across the Cascades through Santiam Pass on U.S. Highway 20 at about 9:30 a.m. when a Linn County sheriff's deputy reportedly clocked him at 153, in a 55 mph zone.

Gordy turned onto a side road to get away, but the attempt backfired when he missed a turn and crashed into a ditch, according to Sheriff Tim Mueller. Neither Gordy nor his passenger, 21-year-old Jessica Claire Hansen of Milton-Freewater, was injured. Both are students at Oregon State University.

Gordy was cited for speeding, attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving and reckless endangerment and was lodged in the Linn County Jail.

"He's enjoying his Oregon vacation at the Linn County bed and breakfast," Mueller said.
