ADAIR VILLAGE - The city council made several appointments to committees Tuesday night, including three people to its Public Safety Committee, which will guide the city in hiring its first police chief as well as fill a vacant code enforcement officer position.
The three citizen members are Kevin Kryger, Rick Herbert and Jeff Snyder.
Mayor Bill Currier and Councilor Jeff Kubler will round out the committee. The group will work with consultant ESCi of Wilsonville to recruit a police chief.
The city also acquired two police cars from the city of Portland for an undisclosed, "very reasonable price," according to City Administrator Drew Foster.
"We have two vehicles ready to put into service," Foster said Wednesday.
"Police services is a high priority for the community - especially as we move to hopefully completing our urban growth boundary expansion," he added.
A three-member finance committee has also been set up to help monitor the city ledger. The committee includes former mayor Faye Abraham and citizens Colleen Rimmer and Nicole Real.
Adair Village has only two paid staff, and Foster said this group will add another level of review for all the city's financial actions.
Vacant positions on the planning commission were filled with longtime resident Ebenezer Vedamuthu and Bob Zedwick, who lives outside the city but within the urban growth boundary.
Foster said city staff has recently organized all its ordinances and is now in the process of turning those items into a uniform city code.
He said private services were consulted but the city went with the Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments to compile the code into a complete document with consistent formatting.
"We will set up a format that will work in the future," Foster said. "Then as we pass ordinances, we will put them right into the code."
