McMahan's Furniture in Albany will close within the next few months.
The store's parent company in Bakersfield, Calif., announced Tuesday it will shutter all of its 17 operations in California and Oregon because of declining sales.
The company made its announcement in a press release which said that although it has been able to rebound from downturns in the past, the current decline has been considerably longer and deeper.
Calls to the Albany store were referred to McMahan's main offices in Los Angeles.
McMahan's officials there would not comment on the closure or how many jobs would be lost. The press release said McMahan's has implemented several strategies to react to the current business environment but the market for home furnishings has continued to decline.
McMahan's is a family-owned business established in Bakersfield in 1918. The Albany store has been in operation since 1984. Originally downtown, it moved to its current site at 2220 Pacific Blvd. S.E. in 2002.
