People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

LINN COUNTY SHERIFF

Elude - Around 1:40 a.m. today, a deputy spotted a pickup speeding on North Lake Creek Drive in Tangent. Further down the road, where it becomes Tangent Drive, the deputy estimated the pickup to be going about 70 mph and tried to stop it.

When the deputy caught up with the pickup, it was stopped on the side of the road and empty. Lights were on in a nearby house.

After repeatedly knocking on the house door and calling the house phone number, a man came to the door and gave deputies permission to search the home. The driver was found in an upstairs bedroom. The home belonged to his relative.

Shane Mckenzie Robb, 36, of Tangent was charged with attempt to elude by vehicle and foot, driving while suspended and careless driving. He also had an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. Robb was lodged in the Linn County Jail.

Theft - A paddle boat was reported stolen Wednesday from a yard in the 6500 block of Seven Mile Lane. The thief got away with the boat by dragging it into nearby water.

Burglaries - The sheriff's office on Wednesday took two residential burglary reports. One break-in occurred in the 34000 block of Grand Prairie Road S.E., and the other in the 3900 block of Three Lakes Road S.E. Electronics, jewelry and money were stolen from both homes. Investigators say the burglaries may be related.

LEBANON FIRE

Barn fire - Fire investigators were working today to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed a barn at 38015 Middle Ridge Drive.

Firefighters were dispatched at 3 a.m. today and found the barn fully engulfed in flames that reached 50 feet into the air. Eleven firefighters with six units extinguished the blaze.

The barn was used for storage of miscellaneous items and also housed a single room apartment that was not occupied at the time. There were no injuries.

Nearby structures were not damaged but the fire reached items stored outside the barn.
