PORTLAND (AP) - Searching for shipwrecks and exploring tide pools along the Oregon coast will be easier this week, when extremely low tides will expose areas normally hidden by the pounding surf.

On Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, tides will drop as low as minus 3 feet - about as low as they can get on the coast.

The receding waters should allow a good view at Clatsop Beach of the Peter Iredale, a ship that sank in 1906. Along Bandon's south jetty, parts of the sunken steamship Oliver Olson, lost in 1953, emerge from the water at low tide.

The tide pools around Haystack Rock at Cannon Beach will be easily accessible to view creatures.

The low tides also will expose the ghost forest of 2,000-year-old tree stumps at Neskowin.
