LEBANON - Act Alive, the fundraiser event for diabetes services at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, raised nearly $10,000 in its fifth year. Tim Hindmarsh, MD, the hospital and Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation held the event July 4 in partnership with Lebanon's Star-Spangled Celebration.
As part of the multi-sport Act Alive events, approximately 15 people joined a 21-mile bicycle ride with the Santiam Spokes. Another 28 participated in a 5K Cheadle Lake trail run with the Lebanon High School cross-country team, and 66 participated in three walks with Build Lebanon Trails.
This was the first year that Act Alive was held in partnership with the Star-Spangled Celebration. Officials said the crowds were comparable to the roughly 4,000 who attended in 2008. Many spectators were on hand to see Hindmarsh skydive into the Celebration with Randy McCoy, MD, and Hindmarsh's friends Michael Lemming and Mike Stradley.
"I think the merger of Act Alive and the Star-Spangled Celebration was everything we could have hoped for," said Warren Beeson, chairman of the Celebration. "It was a great addition to the Celebration program."
The LCH Foundation continues to accept donations to its Diabetes Fund, which it uses to offer scholarships for uninsured diabetes patients for classes and other services at the hospital. For more information, call the foundation at (541) 451-6303.
