Several candidates have filed for Linn-Benton Community College board positions. The election will be held May 15.
Zone 1: South and East Linn County
• Janice Horner of Sweet Home is a certified public accountant at Sundberg, Rauch, Benneth, Horner and McFetridge in Lebanon. She is a graduate of Sweet Home High School and has served on the college board since 1998.
Zones 2-3: North and West Linn County
(Two positions open)
• John Donovan is the development director at the Albany Helping Hands shelter. He is a former small business owner, high school teacher and coach, and marketing coordinator for ITT Educational Services.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University. Donovan has served on the Community Services Consortium advisory board, the Albany Planning Commission, the Albany Library Board and the Linn County Public Health Advisory Council.
• C. Jeffery Evans has 20 years experience as a land-use planner and legal consultant. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from Oregon State University and a master's in community and regional planning from the University of New Mexico.
Evans served on the Human Services Council of Alameda County and the history and science commission in Sacramento, Calif.
• Stephen Frey is vice president of administration for Knife River, formerly known as Morse Bros. Inc. He is a former controller for Morse Bros., and served as vice chair on the Cascade Employers Association Inc. board. He is a past board member of the Pacific Northwest Employers Trust and L & M Welding and Steel Fabrication, Inc.
Frey has a bachelor's degree in business administration from OSU and an MBA from the University of Oregon.
• Richard Running has been a certified public accountant since 1971. He graduated from Twin Falls High School in Idaho, and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., and an MBA from the University of Denver.
• Claus Sass is president and general manager of DLF International Seed in Halsey and has been in the seed processing business since 1978. He graduated from Lyons Public Schools in Nebraska, studied mechanical drafting at the Oregon Institute of Technology and has taken courses at Linn-Benton Community College. Sass has served on both the Oregon Fine Fescue and Oregon Tall Fescue commissions.
• Peter Tarzian of Albany has experience as a school superintendent, a community college educator, a K-12 instructor, a state representative, an ESD board member and an Oregon Housing Council appointee.
Tarzian has a doctorate in educational policy and management. He also holds bachelor's and master's degrees in broadcast communications from California State University, San Francisco. His government experience includes serving as Oregon State representative from Jackson County, serving on the Oregon State Housing Council and as a member of the Linn-Benton-Lincoln ESD board.
Zone 4: Lebanon area
• Harold "Hal" Brayton of Lebanon is an insurance agent and has experience in car sales and the newspaper industry. He has a bachelor's degree in English from the UO. Brayton has served on the board since 1996 and is the current chairman.
Zones 6-7B: City of Corvallis
• Ann Brodie of Corvallis is a retired research assistant professor at OSU. She has a bachelor's degree from Purdue University and a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley.
Brodie has served on the LBCC board since 2003.
