West Albany High School will bid farewell to 280 graduating seniors at 7 p.m. June 7 at Memorial Stadium.
The 2007 valedictorians are Samantha Bachman, Celia Bond, Christiane Carney, Bjorn Cooley, Cassie Lary, Meghan Lloyd, Lauren Williams, Lindsay Wills, Jillian Woloshun and James Wu.
Baccalaureate will be at 7 p.m. Sunday in the WAHS gymnasium. Senior awards will be at 7 p.m. Monday, in the Russell Tripp Performance Center, Takena Hall, on the Linn-Benton Community College main campus in Albany.
The school would like people to know that extra parking for commencement will be available in the Liberty Elementary School in-field, and a shuttle service will run from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. in a continuous circle making stops at the parking area at Liberty, the tennis courts and behind WAHS at the greenhouse. Handicapped parking will be available by driving through the main gate. Tickets are required and gates will open at 4 p.m. for seating, through the main gate and at the west end of the field. No smoking, outside food or beverage, lawn chairs or coolers are permitted.
All valedictorians received a 4.0 grade point average.
Samantha Bachman, the daughter of Tom and Dalleen Bachman of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society. She was a Rotary Student of the Month, and a member of the dinosaur club, baccalaureate committee and the dodgeball tournament committee. She tutors, plays softball, is a lifeguard and works at the Mennonite Home. She plans to study social work at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla.
Celia Bond, the daughter of Rodney and Diane Bond of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students and the National Honor Roll. She was a cheerleader for four years and received the National Young Leaders' Conference Leadership Award. She plans to study business in the honors program at Western Oregon University.
Christiane Carney, the daughter of Kimberly and Cliff Carney of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society, the Cultural Diversity Club, Drama Club, leadership and youth and government. She was the school board representative for the ASB Student Government and an Albany Chamber of Commerce student of the month. She is also a volunteer tutor. She plans to study biochemistry in the honor's program at Portland State University.
Bjorn Cooley, son of Rob and Ingrid Cooley of Albany, is a National Honor Society officer; a Junior First Citizen; an outstanding computer science, mathematics and band student; an Eagle Scout; a Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Citizen; and a Student All-Star for Outstanding Achievement. He played junior varsity and varsity soccer and track, and was a member of the jazz band and symphonic band, both for four years. He plans to study liberal arts at Yale University.
Cassie Lary, daughter of Stacey and Randy Lary of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society. She was a Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month and ASB treasurer. She played varsity softball and volleyball, and was a varsity cheerleader. She volunteers at the senior center and parks and recreation. She plans to study radiology at Boise State University.
Meghan Lloyd, daughter of Randy and Laurie Lloyd, is a member of the National Honor Society and Drama Club, participating in two plays and three musicals. She was a Rotary Club Student of the Month. She plays the violin and swing dances. She plans to major in studio art at Willamette University.
Lauren Williams, daughter of Cynthia Williams and John Williams of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society and the band for four years. She was a Rotary Student of the Month and the newspaper assistant editor. She swing dances and participated in the Oregon Invitational Mathematics Tournament. She plans to double major in mathematics and applied physics at Linfield College.
Lindsay Wills, daughter of David and Jo Wills of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society, the YMCA Youth & Government, band, student council, Cultural Diversity Club and AYSO soccer. She served as editor-in-chief of the newspaper and as the 4-H club president. She was also the 2006-07 Outstanding Student of America. She plans to double major in chemistry and political science at the University of Oregon.
Jillian Woloshun, daughter of Anita Woloshun of Albany, is a member of the National Honor Society and former member of the Earth Club. She was a Rotary Club Student of the Month and member of Albany Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership. She volunteered at SafeHaven Humane Society. She plans to study liberal arts at the University of Oregon.
James Wu, son of Justin and Joanna Wu of Albany, is vice president of the National Honor Society, tennis captain, robotics president and a Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month. He participated in band. He plans to study computer engineering at Duke University.
