JEFFERSON - Jefferson firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire at 9:47 p.m. Saturday near Parrish Gap and Vaughn Road. It was contained 27 minutes later.

Initially, the fire quickly moved into heavy timber, according to information from the Jefferson Fire District. Trees that were torching off were visible from I-5 to the firefighters responding to the call.

The fire quickly went to a fourth alarm.

Firefighters from Jefferson, Stayton and Scio had the fire 100 percent contained by 10:14 pm.

"The extreme heat of the day affected both the spread of the fire and the fatigue of the firefighters," said Jefferson Fire Lt. Jason Powell.

The district had a 20 acre fire last week near I-5 that crews have been working on fully extinguishing since Wednesday night.

The fire was 100 percent contained on Thursday; however stumps and trees continued to burn and smolder.
