Posted: Wednesday, July 8, 2009 12:00 am

The Dare to Cruz poker cruz and car show is set for Friday and Saturday in Albany to raise funds for the DARE education program of the Albany Police Department and for CASA of Linn County.

The event kicks off with a poker cruz starting at 3 p.m. Friday at At Home Furniture, 930 Hill St. S.E. The price to play is $5 per hand and tickets are available at the start. It features stops at various businesses around Albany, finishing up at South Pacific Auto Sales, with winning hands receiving awards.

In conjunction with the poker cruz, South Pacific Auto Sales, 5050 Pacific Blvd. S.W., will host a mini-carnival from 2 to 10 p.m. Friday to raise money for DARE. The carnival will include a 15-foot inflatable bounce house, 18-foot slide, 30-foot obstacle course, rock climbing walls and other activities. JT and the Tourists will give a free concert, and concessions will be provided by the South Albany Rebel Booster Club. The event is free, but donations will be accepted for DARE.

On Saturday, the downtown car show will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Two Rivers Market at the corner of Third Avenue and Ferry Street. The car show is free to viewers, and $20 per car to enter.
