People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.

Albany Police

Aluminum theft - Two men allegedly stole less than $50 worth of aluminum from Davis Glass, 220 Second Ave. S.E., Tuesday morning. An employee got the license plate of the suspects' GMC pickup and police located the men in the Aumsville area. The Marion County Sheriff's Office escorted the men and the aluminum to the Santiam rest area off Interstate 5, where local law enforcement took over. The metal was returned to the business. The men were cited for second-degree criminal trespass and third-degree theft and released. According to APD, aluminum isn't very lucrative, going for about 14 cents a pound right now.

Power lines down - A commercial truck driving near 2049 Center St. at about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday snagged some low power lines, which dropped and caused several small brush and backyard fires.

According to police, the truck driver, from J&H Trucking Inc. of Tangent, had done nothing wrong and was completely in compliance. The lines may have been hanging low due to the heat.

Arrest - A man allegedly stole two packs of allergy medicine from The Dollar Tree, 1307 Waverly Drive S.E. around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. When an employee confronted him, he allegedly threatened bodily harm.

Jesse James Hatmaker, 24, of Albany was arrested on a charge of third-degree robbery, a felony due to his threatening the store employee. He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 26.

See you in church! - A woman called police Tuesday afternoon saying she was being harassed by another woman from church. She said the woman had been texting and calling her with the message "Jesus loves you." Police talked to the caller about the complaint and she said she was just calling to make sure the other woman was OK in the heat and to tell her she was praying for her. She was surprised by the angry reaction. The woman agreed to not call her again, but added she hopes to see her in church.

Linn County Sheriff

Odd call - A man called police Tuesday evening saying an unknown person had been calling his wife and making strange comments. The caller said hello to her by name and asked how Arizona was. He also said she looked good in her capris. According to them, the couple does travel to Arizona but the woman "never wears capris."

Sweet Home Police

Medical check - A woman called police late Monday morning to ask if they could check on her sister. She had just gotten off the phone with her sister, who had been complaining of severe pain in her legs, but would not get any medical help. Medics and an officer checked on her. She was OK and said she would follow up with her doctor.
