Foster homes are sought for 29 animals seized in Sweet Home
SafeHaven Human Society in Albany is still looking for volunteers who can provide temporary homes for dogs that were removed from poor living conditions last week.
The Linn County Sheriff's Office seized 31 small-breed dogs Friday from a woman living in Sweet Home. The 81-year-old woman has dementia and was not providing adequate care for the animals. There were feces in the house and a dead dog in the freezer.
The sheriff's office does not plan to file criminal charges and Senior Services is helping the woman.
Two of the dogs have been placed in foster homes.
SafeHaven is caring for the other dogs but it has limited space and resources.
All of the dogs have been treated for medical problems that included urine scald, dental disease and chronic ear infections.
Anyone interested in fostering a dog can go to SafeHaven's website at www.safehavenhumane.com and click on "you can help." After downloading and completing an application, fax it to 928-5939.
Anyone interested in making a donation to assist with the dogs' care and medical expenses can send a check to SafeHaven Humane Society, P.O. Box 2018, Albany, OR 97321. SafeHaven is a nonprofit organization.
The shelter is also in need of Kirkland or Purina small-breed dog and puppy food, both dry food and canned. Items can be dropped off at the shelter, 33071 Highway 34, from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday through Monday and noon to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
For more information, call the shelter at 928-2789 or send an e-mail to info@safehavenhumane.com.
