West grad fundraiser today at McDonald's

West Albany High School Class of 2007 parents will staff "McTakeover Night" from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the McDonald's restaurant at 1820 Pacific Blvd. S.W.

Twenty percent of the profit from purchases during those hours will go toward the Class of 2007 graduation party, scheduled for June 7 at Dixon Recreation Center at Oregon State University.

Tree commission to meet Thursday

The Albany Tree Commission is meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday at City Hall to be briefed, among other things, on the city's first Measure 37 claim, which involves a tree.

The incorrect date was provided on an agenda and on the city's Web site, and appeared in a story Tuesday on Page 1 of the Democrat-Herald.

Because there is the possibility of a large citizen turnout, the commission will meet in the larger Willamette Room, which adjoins the council chambers. Normally, the panel meets in the Calapooia Room.

City Attorney Jim Delapoer will explain the claim starting at 3:15 p.m.

The claim was filed by Mary Hartley, a broker for RE/MAX 2000, for property she owns at 1240 Geary St. S.E. She contends that she cannot develop her land because city regulations prevent her from cutting down a large Oregon white oak on the site.

Ciddici's fundraiser will aid student ambassador

Alyssa Settelmeyer, a junior at South Albany High School, is holding a fundraiser to help pay for her 20-day trip to Australia this summer.

The fundraiser is at Ciddici's Pizza in Albany from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 26.

Settelmeyer, 17, was accepted to participate as a member of the People To People Student Ambassador Program, with the goal to promote international understanding while helping build leadership skills among America's youth. Participants will meet government officials, interact with kids their own age, stay with host families, and be involved in many more educational activities.

The cost is $10 per ticket in advance or $15 per ticket at the door. It's all-you-can-eat pizza, jo-jo potatoes, and all the soda you can drink.

For more information about getting tickets early, contact Aleya Settelmeyer, 905-3068.
