Schools foundation gives grants

The Albany Public Schools Foundation has completed its winter round of classroom grant awards, funding $14,591 in requests in partnership with the East Albany Lions Club.

Teachers asked for grants for materials for foreign language, drama, and reading curriculum and activities. Some said they needed equipment and supplies for music and home economics programs. One school received support for its bicycle education program and an assembly from the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Grant funds are raised through several foundation events - including "Eat and Run," "Winterfest" and "Swim a Lap" - along with individual donations.

Proceeds go to Albany teachers for equipment, supplies and materials to enhance classroom programs.
