People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
ALBANY POLICE
Littering - Albany police responded about 12:45 p.m. Friday to a report of a man in the 300 block of Columbus St. S.E. flinging cat poop into the street.
According to a dispatch report, officers contacted the man, who said he was angry with his neighbor, whose cats defecate on his lawn and in his flower bed. He said he threw it into the street to have the street sweeper pick it up.
The officer explained "proper disposal of cat feces" to the man and directed him to community service officers for further assistance with the cat issue.
LINN COUNTY SHERIFF
Burglary - A Rotalign Ultra shaft alignment system worth approximately $21,000, brand name Pruftechnik, was reported stolen Friday from a closed business in the 32000 block of Old Highway 34, Tangent. Deputies are investigating.
SWEET HOME FIRE
Trailer fire - Fire destroyed a single-wide mobile home about noon Friday at 26171 Old Holley Road.
The fire appears to have started in a bedroom electrical panel. Firefighters are still investigating.
The trailer was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The owner, Valerie Brooks, 57, was not home at the time. A dog and at least two pet birds were killed in the blaze.
The fire was contained to the trailer. The fire department's estimate was a loss of $2,500 for the 40-year-old trailer and $10,000 for the contents.
Brooks does have a place to stay but did not have insurance for the home. Firefighters put her in touch with the Red Cross for assistance.
Two engines, two tenders, a rescue unit and medic unit responded.
