People arrested are innocent unless proven otherwise in court. Initial charges often change as a case progresses.
Albany Police
Alleged car prowl - Police received a call at 3 a.m. Sunday about people looking into cars with flashlights near 47th Avenue and Columbus Street S.E.
An officer spotted a man next to a car parked in a driveway in the 1900 block of 47th Avenue but the man ran away before the officer could stop him. Police found a second man inside the vehicle, and took him into custody. He had a cell phone that had been stolen in a different car break-in.
The man was cited for misdemeanor charges of unlawful entry to a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, possession of burglar tools and theft by receiving.
Last Thursday, at least four people in the neighborhood of 35th Avenue and Oak Street S.E. woke up to find their vehicles had been broken into.
Police say parking a vehicle in a well-lit area and not leaving valuable items inside are two ways to help prevent break-ins.
Graffiti - Officers caught two teenage boys vandalizing downtown Albany businesses with spray paint Sunday evening, according to the police department.
Officers found the boys, ages 16 and 17, in an alley near First Avenue and Broadalbin Street S.W. and they had spray paint with them, according to police. There were about 10 buildings that had been damaged. The boys were taken to the Linn Benton Juvenile Detention Center for criminal mischief and related offenses.
