Donald R. Schwartzengraber, 78, of Lebanon died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Don was born in Continental, Ohio, the son of Elmer and Doris (Corkwell) Schwartzengraber. He lived in Ohio throughout his childhood, where he attended and completed his schooling. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served 20 years, retiring in 1968.
In 1968, Don moved to Lebanon, where he resided until his death. He worked for Champion (U.S.) Plywood until it closed in 1985. He worked for Willamette Valley Rehabilitation as a supervisor for six years.
Don attended the Southside Church of Christ, and was a member of the American Legion, Lebanon Elks Lodge, Korean War Veterans Association and the Air Force Sergeants Association. He also was an umpire for many baseball and softball games, was in the umpire hall of fame and bowled for many years.
Don was married to Wanda Seifert in Las Vegas on Sept. 6, 1953. Wanda preceded him in death on Nov. 25, 2007. He was also preceded by sons Gary and Darrell; several brothers; and a sister.
He is survived by sons Don Schwartzengraber of Chiloquin and David Schwartzengraber of Brookings; several brothers and sisters; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Lebanon I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
