Leonard Wetzler, 78, died May 6 in Springfield.

He was born and raised in Gregory, S.D., the son of Edward and Mary (Kinsvater) Wetzler. In September 1952, Leonard joined the Armed Forces. He honorably served in the U.S. Army and received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. After an honorable discharge from the Army, Leonard made his home in Springfield.

Leonard loved to fish and camp, and was an accomplished water and snow skier.

He retired from Lane Plywood in Eugene, and spent his retirement years traveling and square-dancing. Leonard was a member of the American Legion, the Elks, the Eagles and the Single Trees.

Leonard is survived by his three daughters, Tracey Roome, Tammi Morrow and Cheryl Teifke; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Victoria Morrow, and Alexandra and Ashley Teifke; and sisters Amy Roggow, Ruth Kent and Martha Boushele.

Leonard's parents preceded him in death, as did his younger brother, Lawrence Wetzler.

A celebration of Leonard's life will be on June 27 in Gregory, S.D. The memorial service will be at 2 p.m. at the First Assembly of God, 1008 Church Ave., in Gregory.
