Roy Wesley Brinkley, 54, of Lebanon died Monday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 3, 1953, in Lancaster, Calif., to Duncan Brinkley and Beatrice (Smith) Brinkley.

Roy moved to Oregon in 1962. He graduated from Sandy High School in 1971 where he excelled in sports, especially swimming. After high school he worked for his parent's construction business.

Roy married Sherry Willis on July 3, 1973. He moved to Lebanon in 1976 where he had lived since. He worked for the Champion plywood mill for many years until the mill shut down. He then worked for Philomath Forest Products until 2000. Roy and Sherry later divorced but remained close friends and together cared for their quadriplegic son, Jamie.

Roy then went to work for Samaritan Health Services where he met his fiancé, Linda Hatchett. He was employed there as a supervisor at the time of his death.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, riding quads, working on his house and gold panning. Roy belonged to the North American Hunting Club and the Gold Prospectors of America. He was generous and helpful and always doing things for other people.

He is survived by his fiancé, Linda Hatchett of Lebanon; daughter Denise Johnson and husband Sean of Halsey; sons Jamie and Robert Brinkley, both of Lebanon; parents Duncan Brinkley of Estacada and Beatrice Greening of Portland; brother Carl Brinkley and wife Heidi of Portland; sisters Vona Baughman and Gwen Belmont, both of Gresham; ex-wife Sherry Willis of Lebanon; Linda's daughters Fonda Olsen, Stephanie Loeks, Marie Hyatt and Jenny Young, all of Lebanon, Tammy Lambert of Brownsville and Cynthia Hyde of Albany; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be from

4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Lebanon I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to Roy's family to help with future expenses and may be sent in care of Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, OR 97355.
