Virginia Laura Holt, 82, of Lebanon died Saturday at her home.
Virginia was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Smith) Bowen. She lived on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, as a child and moved to Lebanon in the late 1930s. She graduated from Lebanon High School in 1944. She attended the University of Oregon, where she received her nursing certification. Then she went to Oregon Health & Science University to acquire her registered nurse certification. Later in life, she attended Linfield College, where she received her bachelor's degree in nursing. She worked as the evening supervising nurse at the Lebanon Community Hospital and Albany General Hospital emergency rooms for 25 years.
Virginia was a member of the Lebanon Book Club, American Legion and VFW Auxiliary, Lebanon High School Alumni and participated in the American Red Cross blood drives for many years. She enjoyed growing roses and African violets, and working in her flower gardens.
She is survived by two sons, Charles E. Holt of Acworth, Ga., and James W. Holt of Lebanon; sister Lydia Fouts of Belfair, Wash.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur "Troy" Holt; daughter Nancy E. Thurau earlier this year; and grandsons Matthew Trevor Thurau and Devin Andrew Holt.
At her request, there will be no services. Private burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
