Ozro E. "Ed" Mesecher Jr., 66, of Portland, formerly of Lebanon, passed away Saturday at Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
He was born in Alsea to Ozro E. Mesecher Sr. and Sharah "Sadie" (Boysen) Mesecher.
Ed lived in Alsea until moving to Corvallis when he was 13. He moved to Los Angeles, Calif., when he was 16 and later returned to Corvallis. He entered the Navy in 1960 and was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station in California, where he worked as an aircraft flight mechanic and air crewman. He married Doris Jones on July 8, 1962, in Alsea. Ed and Doris moved to Corvallis after his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1963. They moved to Lebanon in 1964, where he worked for the Georgia Pacific Hardboard Plant until retiring in 1991. Doris passed away on Nov. 28, 1998. Ed moved to Portland in 2003 and had lived there since.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman and also loved four-wheeling.
He is survived by his four sons, Robert Mesecher and wife Shar of Lebanon, Jim Mesecher of Lebanon, David Mesecher and wife Stacy of Portland, and William Mesecher of Beaverton; step-daughter, Dianna Barnett and husband Douglas of Vancouver, Wash.; sister Marilla Miller of Alsea; and grandchildren Joshua and Rachel Barnett, Annabella, Suzy and Krystin Mesecher, and Kira and Justin Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Mesecher; four brothers; four sisters; and his parents.
A viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with a potluck following from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Southside Church of Christ in Lebanon.
