Gary Allen Grieve, 56, passed away Aug. 2 at Swedish Denver Hospital.
Gary was born and raised in Lebanon. He was an avid athlete and outstanding student. He attended the University of Oregon, where he studied music.
Gary married Marcia Rubin in 1978 in Eugene. He was a self-taught engineer who had a successful career in Geographical Engineering Systems in Washington and Colorado. Gary and Marcia followed his career to Boulder, Colo., in 2002.
Gary was a true lover of music. He taught himself piano, guitar and keyboard and was happiest when he was playing or composing. He played in several bands throughout his life. He was a voracious reader who was an expert on an amazing number of subjects.
Gary will always be remembered for his sense of humor, intelligence, and loving and caring nature.
Gary is survived by his wife of 32 years, Marcia; daughters Lisa and husband Steve Cook, and Rachael and husband Scott Eaton; mother Martha; brothers Doug and wife Linda, and Mike and wife Heather; sisters Pat and Mary Anne; and four beautiful grandchildren, Nicholas, Olivia, Benjamin and Noble.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, with a reception to follow. A second reception will be in Seattle so his ashes can be scattered closer to his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the name of Gary's grandson Benjamin Cook.
