Jack R. Burrell, 89, of Lebanon died Saturday, peacefully at home with his family close by.
He was born in Lebanon to Lynn and Velma Rose Burrell. He was raised in Foster and graduated from Sweet Home Union High School in 1936. He attended college in Monmouth for a
while and later worked at the Lockheed Aircraft Factory in Los Angeles.
During World War II, he entered the Army Air Force and flew B-24s in the South Pacific. Later he was injured, and an army nurse, Mary Berger, helped take care of him. After his dischar
ge, he and Mary returned to Lebanon and were married in March of 1946.
At that time, they moved to Sweet Home, where Jack owned and operated the Sweet Home Construction Company until 1967. He then moved to Petersburg, Alaska and continued to work there unt
il 1989, when he retired and moved back to Lebanon.
Jack especially enjoyed gardening, reading, discussing philosophy, and meeting up with old friends at Shari's Restaurant, McDonald's and Burger King.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Burrell of Lebanon; s
ons Jack Burrell and wife Karen of Albany, and Robert Burrell and wife Cathy of St. Paul, Minn.; daughter Patricia Burrell of Lebanon; grandchildren Samantha Roshak, Adam Burrell, Chris Burrell, Mike Burrell, John Burrell; great-grandchildren Mac Roshak, G
illian Roshak, Jack Burrell III; and brothers Warren Burrell of Petersburg, Alaska, and Dick Burrell of Lebanon.
At Jack's request there will be no service. A private burial will be at the Powell Cemetery in Berlin.
