Gay Marie Abbott, 65, passed away Saturday.
She was born in Grace, Idaho, the daughter of Kermit and Elsie (Larsen) Herd Sr.
Gay moved to Preston, Idaho, and attended schools in Logan, Utah. She was an accomplished artist and shared her talents and paintings with many. She had a unique sense of humor and a generous heart that allowed her to help many people in times of need and acquire new friends, most recently in Scott Bar, Calif. Caring for others was a priority and many considered her their adopted mom.
Gay was loved by her husband, sons, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family. Her absence will be felt by all who knew her.
For the past three years, Gay and her husband, Bill, were caretakers at the Lost Dutchman's Mining Camp in Scott Bar. Gay was baptized in the Latter-day Saints church.
She volunteered many hours at various elementary schools and for the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. She was a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Gay was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Keith, Le Grand and James Herd; and sister Sharon Bright.
Gay married Earl "Bill" Abbott on Nov. 13, 1964, in Austin, Texas. He survives. Other survivors include sons Jim and David Abbott; brother Kermit Herd Jr.; sister Hope Hymas; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Faith Harvest Fellowship, 401 S. Main.
