March 24, 1926 - Dec. 1, 2008
Doyle Eugene Johnson, 82, of Sweet Home peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday with his family at his side.
He was born and raised in Genoa, Neb. Doyle served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to '53, spending most of his time in Korea; he was honorably discharged as master sergeant. He graduated from Lewis and Clark in 1956 and received his master's degree from the University of Oregon.
Doyle married Audrey May Stapleton on Nov. 28, 1951, and they moved to Sweet Home in 1958. He taught at Sweet Home High School and was a favorite of many students; he retired in 1985 but always enjoyed meeting and chatting with his former students. He was a long-time member of the Sweet Home City Council in the '70s, served one term as mayor and was awarded the Sweet Home Jr. First Citizen Award.
Doyle loved to travel and after he and Audrey retired they traveled extensively. Though he will be remembered for his love of learning, fishing, playing the guitar and golfing, his heart and soul was his family, whom he loved without reserve.
He is survived by his wife; daughters Taryn and husband Tim Berry, and Leigh Ann and husband Chuck MacKenzie; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as his sister and brother.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Sweet Home at Fir Lawn Lutheran Church. Remembrances can be directed to Fir Lawn to be used in providing clean drinking water around the world.
