Gilbert Dwain Wolfe, 97, of Lebanon died Thursday at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital.
He was born in Pleasantview, Mo., the son of Albert and Martha (McMillan) Wolfe. He moved to Montana in 1916 and was raised and worked on the family farm in Plentywood. He moved to Bend in 1934 and worked in the timber industry.
He married Dorothy Hess on June 17, 1937, in Plentywood. They settled in the Lebanon area in 1960 and had resided there since that time. Gilbert worked as the head custodian at the Lebanon Union High School until his retirement.
He was a member of the Waterloo Chapel, where he served as a deacon and on the board of directors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking, riding horses and, in his younger years, skiing and ice skating.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Lebanon; son Glenn Wolfe of Cornelius; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by son Hubert in 1973; two brothers; and four sisters.
A viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at Huston-Jost Funeral Home. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterloo Chapel. Private burial will be at Sandridge Cemetery.
